1. How can I contact you?
Please see the next section.

2. Where are you located?
Southern California.

3. Are you still Emergency Physicians?
Fred still practices clinically in 4 local Emergency Departments as well as consulting on Emergency Departments.

4. How long have you been interested in the elements you call Longevity Coaching®?
In the 1960's  I started my personal journey by embracing exercise, spirituality and supplements. When I went to Medical School, I identified with traditional healers, not just physicians. Over the past 40+ years I have identified what I believe to be the valid elements of longevity from all the hype that surrounds this fascinating topic.

5. What is your model for Longevity Coaching®?
Longevity Coaching® is a unique all inclusive model that Fred started to develop during his MBA Healthcare Program at UC Irvine. It has been built out to incorporate every factor and intervention that we know of that has evidence to support the enhancement of personal longevity. There are two types of people, “lumpers” and “splitters”. I am a “lumper”. Longevity Coaching® is a big tent, and there is lots of room under the tent for interventions or directions that enhance longevity.

6. How are you different from an Executive Coach or a Life Coach?
First, I am a physician. Almost every other reputable coach comes from a Human Resources, Personal Fitness or Psychology background. Second, I use a medical model to initially assess Longevity Risk® and then build from
there, incorporating state of the art but validated evidence to develop an individualized program. I believe we include every dimension that has been shown to influence longevity, and if something new is discovered, it too will be added. Third, my goal is not to just make you a more efficient leader in your organization (although you can expect to be) or to get over a personal hurdle in your life, such as a career decision, but rather to identify and make personal changes that will improve the quality of your life, and in doing so, improve the quantity. We’re in it for a long time, not just a good time. Fourth, there is no “one size fits all”. There is a framework that I build on to develop a unique individualized approach to your personal longevity. You are you, and your needs, strengths, weaknesses are unique. And they change over time. And your program will change as you change. Fifth, having over 30 years experience as a physician working with people on important decisions, I understand what can go right with you, and what can go wrong, and how to close the gap.

7. I’m a vegetarian. Are you? And if you aren’t, can you help me?
No, I’m not yet vegetarian but getting closer. While I’ve significantly cut back on my consumption of meat over the years I still eat limited amounts of chicken and especially fish. Fred's daughter, however, is a vegetarian and
has given him a sensitivity and understanding of the unique issues and health needs plus strengths that vegetarians have in regards to not only diet but also supplements and spirituality.

8. Do you really believe vitamin pills, or herbal pills will help me?
Maybe. Supplements are chemicals, just like any prescriptions you may buy, the foods you eat, the liquids you drink and the air you breathe. It is the pattern that is important, not just the individual components. I will discuss in
detail the relationship between your predispositions to disease, your dietary intake and the potential role of supplements in a comprehensive longevity program.

9. Do I need a program in every area you mention, such as exercise, supplements, spirituality?
I prioritize your individual program, based on the highest priority needs. But, in the end, it is about you, not me. If I can help to make a difference I will.

10. I am very busy and am looking for a shortcut to living longer. What do you have to offer?
What do you have to offer?
Our model offers the opportunity to improve the quality and even the quantity of your life, but it is a very Inclusive program and not suited to a simple shortcut. As an ethical physician who initially trained as a scientist, I cannot vouch for any of the programs I have seen that promise “a magical pill”, “a magical exercise” etc. You can expect positive results from the first day we engage, limited only by your ability to modify your life. And the more time and energy you invest, the higher the return. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. The time you take to sort out your health will be repaid tenfold or more in quality and quantity. Most people at the end of their lives would trade all they have for health. Why not start early?

11. I have multiple medical problems, will you take me on as a patient?
Longevity Coaching® is not about the practice of medicine. Although I am a licensed physician in California I am not practicing Medicine when I do Longevity Coaching®. I do not have a private medical practice. If you have a
physician or physicians I will work with you, or, if necessary, contact them at your request, to get medical information to help plan your individual coaching strategy. I will not make medical decisions for you. I do not write prescriptions.

12. Do you take medical insurance?
No

13. Will you bill my medical plan?
Since we are not practicing medicine, it is unethical for me to bill your medical plan, or fill out billing forms for your medical plan. On the other hand, the cost of Longevity Coaching® may be deductible on your tax forms.

14. Can I expect privacy and confidentiality?
Since we will discuss your personal medical information, all information, medical or not that we receive from you is treated to the same high standards I use when I take a medical history in the Emergency Department.

15. If I’m interested in Longevity Coaching®, what next?
The first stage is to schedule a discussion regarding your expectations and what you wish to get out of the program. We then compare this to our ability to meet these expectations. All information we discuss, from the first contact is confidential and private. If you decide that you wish to engage my services, we schedule a more detailed, formalized interview to help you and I form a Longevity Risk Profile® and identify priorities. Ideally, this is done in person and takes 2 hours. After we complete this profile, I prepare a personalized Longevity Risk ProfileÓ which can form the basis of an ongoing engagement if you wish.

16. How long is your program?
Currently I am asking for at least a 3 month commitment, although 6-12 months is preferred. That may change in the future. My goal with Longevity Coaching® is to help and encourage you to make positive changes to your life in both short and long term. Your personal goals may evolve and change, and hence our approach will change. You set the direction and we work to get you there. But any change process is slow, and sometimes there are setbacks. The longer we can work together, the more likely that this will not just be a quick fix, or the diet that you lose 10 pounds and in 6 months have gained them all back. My work as an Emergency Department Consultant has shown that to embed change in the culture of an organization, to “alter its DNA” takes at least 2 years. Longevity Coaching® may be the same.

17. How do you charge?
The only thing that I have is my time. I bill by the engagement period. The initial 2-hour engagement is $195.00. I have a high level of expertise in multiple fields and believe that my rates are reasonable especially in regards to other professionals or executive coaches. Current rates for ongoing engagement will be discussed at the end of our initial discussion.

18. Do you offer a discount for a longer term engagement?
Yes

19. Will you consider clients outside of the Los Angeles area?
Yes, although if at all possible I prefer at least the Longevity Risk Profile® to be done in person.
